For me ceremony is weaved into every aspect of my being. When we lived in settlements as communities we would have held ceremony for the crossing of thresholds like maiden to mother, menarche (the first bleed), menopause, stopping breastfeeding, partnership or marriage, illness to wellness, death and grief and all the things that we can wrap ceremony around in between that. This is exactly what I do, ceremony is vital in my opinion, in helping our minds to transition and leave one thing behind, stepping into something new or allowing ourselves to expand and welcome in more of the things we need and love. There’s a beauty in the shedding, in the expansion, in the welcoming of a new layer of the self. I recently held ceremony for myself with the support of a few of my wonderful friends to mark the moment I felt ready to let go of the traumatic birth of my third child, I now feel closure and like I’m able to better connect with the letting go of that experience. That’s what ceremony does for me. My own have been incredibly beautiful moments that I will hold with me forever but holding space for others is another type of magic.
